The agreement outlines plans to collaborate in developing a "green shipping corridor," exploring the development and utilization of clean energy such as green methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen, as well as promoting low-carbon port construction. This endeavor aims to enhance the use of clean energy in ports and accelerate the green transformation of the international shipping industry.
Additionally, they will establish a "digital shipping corridor" by developing and implementing digital shipping solutions, which include utilizing technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, blockchain, and the internet of things to achieve efficient port calls and cargo movements.
The focus will also be on digital scenarios in shipping trade and the cross-border flow of shipping data, exploring diverse applications based on electronic bills of lading, electronic letters of credit, and electronic invoices, to promote paperless shipping, cross-border supply chain financing, global digital identities, and cross-border data standardization, fostering the intelligent transformation of ports and terminals and improving transportation efficiency and safety.
Sharjah Port, located in the Emirate of Sharjah in the northeastern UAE, was artificially dug in 1977. Thanks to its strategic location, convenient transportation network, and efficient service quality, Sharjah Port has emerged as a significant shipping hub in the Middle East managed and operated by Gulftainer.
Headquartered in Sharjah, Gulftainer is a professional port operation and terminal management company, that manages container terminals globally. In March 2025, Gulftainer established its China representative office in Yangshan Free Trade Zone, marking its debut in China.
