In the delightful spring season, when flowers are in full bloom and the lakeside exudes a sense of burgeoning vitality, a cultural exchange event for overseas talents in Lin-gang Special Area, named “Lin-gang Expats to Experience the Charm of Chinese Tie-dyeing”, was successfully held at the Dingke Community on the afternoon of March 9th. This event marks the first overseas talent activity held in Lin-gang in 2024.

        阳春三月，百花盛开；滴水湖畔，春意盎然。3月9日下午，面向临港新片区海外人才开展的“国际临港 彩绘顶科”临港新片区海外人才文化交流活动在临港顶科社区顺利举行，这也是临港新片区2024年举办的首场海外人才活动。

        The purpose of this gathering is to celebrate traditional Chinese culture while fostering a deeper appreciation for the diverse cultural experiences of overseas talents. More than 30 individuals from over 8 countries and regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, France, and South Africa gathered in Lin-gang to experience the charm of thousand-year-old tie-dyeing art and explore the cutting-edge world of digital reading at the Wisdom Library in Lin-gang Center. The fusion of traditional culture with modern technology offered a unique experience for these international talents.

        此次活动旨在宣扬中国传统文化和丰富海外人才文化生活，来自美国、英国、德国、瑞士、法国、南非等全球8个国家和地区的30余位海外人才及其家属欢聚临港，在顶科社区领略千年扎染非遗的魅力，在临港科技智慧图书馆体验一场超时空的现代阅读之旅。当传统文化遇见现代科技，将为海外人才带来怎样独特的体验？

        The first stop for the international talents was the Dingke Community, Lin-gang. Home to eight neighborhood committees, four preparatory groups, and 103 Area Builders' Community Service Center, this community boasts institutions like Shanghai Maritime University, Shanghai Ocean University, an international school, and a permanent venue for World Laureates Forum; over 130 foreign residents from 14 countries including the UK, Pakistan, Canada, Thailand and so on making it a truly "international" residential community in Lin-gang.

        海外人才来到的第一站是顶科社区。作为下辖8个居委会、4个筹备组和103 建设者小镇服务站的社区，顶科社区包含了上海海事大学、上海海洋大学等5所高等院校、1所国际学校、顶尖科学家永久会址等配套服务设施。顶科社区目前拥有英国、巴基斯坦、加拿大、泰国等14个国家130多名外国居民，在临港可谓是“国际范”十足的居民社区。

        Tie-dyeing, with a history dating back to the Qin and Han dynasties, is an ancient Chinese textile dyeing craft, known for its aesthetic and practical value. The highlight of this event in the Dingke community is the tie-dyeing experience, aiming not only to showcase the intricate craftsmanship to overseas talents but also to guide them in discovering the cultural richness embedded in the art of tie-dyeing.

        古籍记载，扎染“秦汉始有之”，距今已有数千年历史。作为我国古老的纺织品染色技艺，其美学价值和实用功能十分突出。顶科社区将本次海外人才活动的重头戏放在了扎染体验，不仅注重向海外人才展示制作技艺，更带领海外人才挖掘扎染艺术的文化内涵。

        With the patient guidance of tie-dye craftsmen and staff, participants witnessed how plain fabric was transformed into striking patterns and colors through a series of meticulous steps such as tying, dyeing, rinsing, and drying and were marveled at the results. From tying knots to applying dyes, they immersed themselves in the entire process, finding joy in both exploration and creativity. They expressed admiration for the intricacies of tie-dye production, gaining a deeper appreciation for traditional Chinese handicrafts along the way.

        To quote a Chinese poem: “Like a painting brought to life, what else can be lighter and more graceful?". Overseas talents proudly presented their beautiful blue-dyed fabrics, showcasing the collaborative works they had just completed and expressing their eagerness to introduce the captivating Chinese tie-dye culture to more friends.

        As the dyeing process came to an end, the tie-dye fragrance lingers, perfectly complementing the event's theme "Colors through the Ages". It not only symbolizes the golden time they spent but also implies that the traditional Chinese tie-dye technique has been highly honored by centuries and later generations, increasingly loved by people around the world. The tie-dye activity at the Dingke Community allowed overseas talents to delve into the ancient wisdom of Chinese tie-dye art through hands-on experience and enabled them to appreciate the beauty of traditional intangible cultural heritage, fostering a deeper sense of connection with Chinese traditional culture among our international friends.

        在扎染的染色步骤完成时，布料会散发出阵阵草木清香，正完美契合本次活动的主题“扎染流芳”，不仅象征着海外人才在此次扎染活动中度过了一段流金岁月，更寓意着中国传统扎染技艺历经千年，仍为后世大力推崇，并愈发受到世界人民的喜爱。顶科社区的扎染活动不仅让海外人才在动手实操中，学习到了中国扎染艺术的古老智慧，领略到了传统非遗之美，更增强了海外人才对中华传统文化的深度认同。

        Following the tie-dyeing activity, participants enjoyed Chinese classical music performances with traditional instruments like erhu and trumpet, and were captivated by the allure of Chinese classical melodies, especially during renditions of "Spring Scenery" and "Along the Way". Coffee and pastries were also served, creating a leisurely and elegant atmosphere for participants to share their working and living experiences in Lin-gang.

        海外人才来到的第二站是上海临港科技智慧图书馆。工作人员讲解道，这个图书馆看不到一本纸质图书，却汇聚了全球西文学术电子专著20 余万册，中文科技类电子图书30 余万册，包括来自157 家国际知名大学出版社的7万余册电子图书。图书馆还将运用AI技术对约20亿条学术数据进行学科谱系化链接，为临港新片区数字产业生态建设提质增能。
